Our Fourth Annual Food for Free Fundraiser Kicks Off
Our February Food for Free fundraiser kickoff party Thursday night was a huge success. We had a great turnout, our largest in four years of raising money for Food for Free, and enjoyed a delicious spread put out by Robert Harris of Season to Taste Catering. Robert cooked up fresh risotto balls topped with roasted plum tomatoes; cauliflower saffron custard garnished with sage leaves in flaky pie dough shells; crostinis topped with walnut and blue cheese crema, golden beets, and a herb pistou; and Robert's famous pulled pork served on homemade waffle chips. Remember that through February, 5% of all Didriks sales will go to helping bring fresh, healthy produce into the homes of the people who need it most.
More about Food for Free Food for Free collects fresh produce, that would otherwise go to waste, from wholesalers, grocery stores, farms, and CSAs and distributes it to over 74 food pantries in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville. Their home delivery program brings this food into the homes of low-income elderly or disabled people who are unable to get to food banks themselves, allowing them to cook their own meals in their own homes rather than relying on prepared food from meals-on-wheels programs.
