Freakishly Fabulous Halloween Table Setting #3: Sweets Buffet

By Hairee Lee

For the Sweets Table Melissa brought a lot more lightness than the other tables. White table mats and white frosted votives, white candlesticks and the absence of pewter made the sweets buffet feel lighter, not just look more light colored. But reminders of Halloween were still there with the arrangment of Verso RINKI Pot holder and Verso KIVI Pot holder in red, bright bloody red.

Melissa first covered the coffee table with Chilewich Bamboo Table Runner-Jet Black and Chilewich Lattice Table Runner in silver. Between them, Melissa placed three Chilewich Bamboo Round Tablemat - White to represents the moon or moons.

To light the table she used Iittala Aalto Votives-Frosted, Simon Pearce Thetford Votive, and Simon Pearce Cavendish Candlestick. The rest of the light came from the fireplace and carved pumpkin.

The extra worms from the Caramel "Bad" Apples was served in Iittala Marimekko Bowl 6"-Black, tying the sweets table to the cocktail table that featured the Iittala Marimekko Bowls.

My pumpkin bars, which tasted great but had a funky consistency, were displayed on the Revol France Round Tray, slate. The dark grey set off the white icing to appetizing effect. And almost made up for the odd doughy-ness.

The witches' hats, ridiculously easy to make but fabulous looking, were displayed on the Heath Ceramics Serving Platter - Jicama. The slightly off white color of this platter dramatically contrasted the dark chocolate of the cookies.

The over all effect was a table that echoes all the elements in the previous two tables--cocktail bar and savory buffet table--but lightened up for the sweeter side of the party.
