Weekly Table Setting: Glass on Black
This week, we had a chance to play around some more with backdrops and lighting in our new photo studio, and we came out with these stunning images of our weekly table setting. We did things a bit differently this week, setting only a two-person table, to really let the dinnerware take center stage. The result was a gorgeous setting with simple, clean lines and loads of visual appeal.
The dark color scheme at first looks a bit moody and foreboding, but with the lighting just so, it really creates quite a presentation. The settings is composed entirely of brown and black tones, which made a stunning contrast against the vibrant flatware and shiny glasses.
Each setting started with a Chilewich Tuxedo Stripe Rectangular Placemat in Sable, and Chilewich black linen napkins. Often black and brown don't go well together as a style choice, but here it works so beautifully.
The dinnerware came from two Heath Ceramics collections, and included the Heath Coupe Dinner Plates in Onyx, Coupe Salad Plates in Chocolate Brown, and Heath Plaza Cereal Bowls also in Onyx. Another example of black and brown playing nice together.
The ultra-modern flatware from the Alessi Colombina Collection, boasting an ultra-polished exterior that dazzled in the low-light.
As mentioned earlier, the glassware was Simon Pearce Woodbury collection, showing both the Woodbury Tumbler and the Woodbury Red Wine Glass. The imperfect texture that these glasses are known for refracts the light in so many directions that these glasses look like they're glowing.
Right in the center of the setting, we placed this Orrefors Discus Votive. With the look of shattered ice, it picks up the light and throws it back at the camera, making it seem almost blindingly white against the black tabletop. I'd say this is the perfect accoutrement to round our this week's table!
