Table Setting of the Week: Featuring Jars Vuelta

Though the heat waves of the two weeks before seem to have passed us, Summer's still going strong. And this table setting's not about to forget it. For this week's Table Setting of the Week, Melissa Ragonese, the Visual Merchandising Manager, went eclectic in terms of the items she chose, but the theme is summer all the way with elements of the sun, colors of water, and the shapes of summer verdure.

To achieve this look in your own dinner or patio table, start with the Chilewich Basketweave rectangular tablemats in lemon, a light yellow that provides color but not so bright as you make you squint as you eat.

Lay the stunningly glazed the Jars Vuelta Dinner Plate in sky grey and the Jars Vuelta Fruit Cup in sky grey on top. The fruit cup is ideally sized to perform double duty as a soup or salad starter. To had contrast and play with the summer colors, place the light blue Sabre Natura 5 pc Place Setting which has a gorgeous pearlescent sheen set off by the matte finish of the mat. Finish with a iittala Tapio white wine glass. Their unique shape continues the modern forms of the dinnerware and the fun in the color scheme.

My favorite part of this table setting is the Verso Design Marja large trivet in blue. The long, branch-with-leaves-or-fruit-or-blooms inspired design of this incredibly creative yet functional trivet acts like a horizontally laid flower center piece. It's contemporary and visually interesting and functional: the trivet will keep your hot bakers of gratin or lasagna or cobbler from damaging the table top.

Finally, add a bit of lighting. Rather than the traditional placement of candles at the center of the table, Melissa took the set of 3 Orrefors Lightstone votives and placed them along the side of the table. The purposely non-identical votives are designed to look like three similarly sized and smooth stones that you might, say, find on the beach or a lakeshore. Votives by Orrefors look particuarly stunning on a darkened table, like say, when an al fresco dinner goes well into the dark of night. See how the Raspberry version looked in our al fresco Dinner 11 of the Dinner Series (scroll down for photo). Small touches like this can make dinner seem like a dining experience.
