Table Setting of the Week: Feat. Heath Ceramics & Iittala

The colors of golden delicious apples, crisp autumn sky, and winter ice can be just as seasonal as pumpkin orange, burgundy red, and bourbon sienna. This week's table setting brings together the lighter colors of fall and winter like warm greys, soft yellow, the sparkling green/blue of snow and ice.

>

To achieve this look, >Melissa starts with a rich dark brown table cloth-->Libeco Home Vence Linen Tablecloth in café noir. To help create a larger sense of space she color blocks the table clothe with a lighter colored Libeco Home Vence Linen Tablerunner in taupe.

>

To add light to the dark linen colors, Melissa then lays down Chilewich Lattice Rectangular Placemat in white which has a very loose basketweave to allow the color of the linen to come through. The clear coating on the vinyl threads of the placemat also reflects light, bringing yet more light and a kind of ice crystal look to the surface cover.

>

For each place setting, begin with the >Revol France Basalt Slate Round Tray as the charger. These slate-looking, ceramic-convenient trays are also great for use as serveware. Think cheese platter or hors d'oeuvre tray.

>

Then lay: >Heath Ceramics Coupe Dinner Plate in mist, Heath Ceramics Coupe Salad Plate in french grey, >Heath Ceramics Coupe Bread Plate in linen, and >Libeco Home Vence Linen Napkin in grape secured with >Sabre Paris Old Fashioned Napkin Ring in pearl. The rich pop of color from the purple napkin sets off the pastel hues and warm greys.

>

To complete the setting, place the Heath Ceramics Coupe Dessert Bowl in peridot/ linen, iittala Kartio Large Tumbler in water green, and Sabre Paris Basic 5 Piece Place Setting in dark grey.

>

The peridot glaze reminds me of golden delicious apples, the totally transparent water green glass looks like ice and the polished acrylic handles of the flatware ties the linen and the slate charger together.

>

The water green glass of the iittala Kartio Large Tumbler is reiterated in the ceter piece of iittala Aalto Vase trio: iittala Aalto Vase small in water green and iittala Aalto Vase Large in clear and white.

>

For the purposes of merchandizing, Melissa filled the large vases with Libeco Home Vence Linen Napkin in grape and Sabre Paris Old Fashioned Napkin Ring in pearl. But these help you easily imagine what the vases might look like filled with, say, an enormous bouquet of irises or dark purple plums as decorative centerpieces.
