Hurricane Lamps: "A Staple of Outdoor Entertaining"
NYTimes.com recently featured designer Deborah Ehrlich's top picks for hurricane lamps. You can find the article here. She thinks that camping lanterns are on the same level, design-wise, as the "high-end stuff." Maybe. I'm inclined to disagree with the items I've seen available at Didriks. Hurricane lamps are a great and convenient way to bring candlelight to the table without having to worry about a stray breeze inking out the evening and having you scrambling for the lighter or matches. Here are some of our fabulous picks. They're simple enough to use with any table setting but elegant enough even for your fanciest al fresco meals.

Kosta Boda Linne Hurricane. This hurricane lamp features a flowing, tulip shape. Designed by Göran Wärff who was inspired by historic banquets, he created a robust but elegant hurricane lamp exuding Swedish craft tradition.
Simon Pearce Nantucket Hurricane. The simple design and functionality of the hand blown Nantucket Hurricane offers sophisticated warmth and a soft, reflective glow to any surrounding. Perfect as a centerpiece, mantelpiece or outdoor lighting element. Simon Pearce boasts a large selection of handblown hurricanes. The Nantucket is my personal favorite of theirs but you can their entire collection of hurricanes here and see how lovely the Simon Pearce Stratton Hurricane in our table setting for Dinner 5 of Dinner Series.
Last but not least, Match Pewter Cylinder hurricane. This is definitely my personal favorite. The weight and elegance of Match Pewter's hurricanes is unsurpassed. The old world feel afforded by the pewter makes it a lovely center piece all on its own. You can see how incredible they look from the photo above from our Dinner 10: Seaside Supper in Dinner Series.
