iittala celebrates 40 years of Toikka birds with the Mirella bird. Each year Oiva Toikka creates a limited edition glass bird to be crafted by the iittala glassblowers. This year’s bird – Mirella -  is a charming black and white bird that is an interesting counterpoint to the other brightly color birds from the Toikka collection. The glass bird and egg make a wonderful pair - or stand proudly on their own.

The 2012 egg is also created in a graphic black and white. The egg is created with horizontal and vertical stripes.

Toikka glass birds and eggs are unique works of art that are individually mouth blown. Mr. Toikka works directly with the glass blowers in iittala's Finnish workshop to create these pieces. The collaborative process results in wonderful pieces of art that have become collector's items. Each piece is marked with the etched signature of “O. Toikka Nuutajärvi”.
