Valentine's Vision
We created this pink themed setting in honor of Valentine's Day (if you didn't see our gift guides, check them out, useful year-round!). The subdued brightness of pale pastels contrasts with the hot pink Chilewich table runner. While pink is classic for this holiday, I find pink, especially sophisticated, muted pinks like many featured here, a wonderful starting place for a table.
The foundation of this setting is the combination of pale pink and cream. A number of subtle textures are introduced, from the delicate arrow design on the Sarjaton Metsa dinner plate to the embossed wheat-like pattern on the Rorstrand Swedish Grace salad plate. This is complimentary but not identical to the tone-on-tone braid pattern on the Sarjaton mug.
The glass Sarjaton cups and mirror-finish flatware, along with the reflective strands of this lattice runner and the light-throwing dewdrops on the footed bowls that are the centerpiece of each place setting, keep the setting glittering and bright.
Playful felt coasters shaped like plum blossoms from Finnish designer Verso keep the setting light-hearted and keep it from being overloaded with sparkle.
The keystone of the table is the giant vase of peonies, a distinctively scalloped design from Simon Pearce, the Devon vase. We love the elegant teardrop shape of this vase, and its generous size. Peonies are a wonderful alternative to roses for Valentine's Day, as well!
Happy Valentine's Day!
