Kitchen Style: Autumn Colors
As the weather cools and the days grow shorter, the leaves are turning here in Cambridge, and autumn is well underway. Julep, a brand best known for their high quality nail polish, invited us to share our thoughts about transitioning into autumn, about the colors we want to see and use and wear, and about what that transition means to us. In terms of color this transition is a shift from brights and pastels to dark jewel tones and earth tones. I think Julep captures it perfectly in their autumn style graphic:
Of course we love all things home and kitchen, so for us it's time to think about autumn cooking and autumn entertaining: to bring out the root vegetables, the rich soups, the hearty breads, the pies, and all manner of baked goods we can eat fresh from the oven.
It's time to bring out the aprons.
When I think about autumn colors—dark, earthy, saturated—what immediately comes to mind is the Belgian linen brand Libeco Home, with their rich, muted color palette, sophisticated and elegant.
When I have an autumn palette in mind, I want to see rusty reds, sepias, warm, rich browns, olives, plums, mulberries, burgundies, dark teals, burnt oranges, and all warm metallics.
French bakeware brand Emile Henry has an elegant, muted palette as well. The green pie dish above is available in a soft juniper blue, and the orange baking dish below is also available in a wonderful, deep plum.
Another brand with extensive color options, many of which are lovely for autumn, is Chilewich. The placemats are a wonderful, easy way to bring a table setting together, and the doormats come in a wide range of colors as well.
If you want to gear up for baking season with a sturdy new apron and some kitchen essentials, this is the place.
